Criminal Record Search



CRIMINAL RECORD SEARCH & CERTIFICATE



This search is intended for individuals seeking a volunteer and/or employment position and could involve children or vulnerable persons.

To make a request for the Belleville Police Service to perform a Criminal Record Check for Employment or Volunteer (payment required) purposes, you have two options:

(1)   The online Criminal Record Check service (requires a $30.00
pre-payment made with VISA or MasterCard), or;

(2)   Download a copy or fill out the Criminal Record Check Request booklet online from this web site and/or attend the Belleville Police Service at 93 Dundas Street East in person to fill out the booklet and submit it to our Records Office personnel (requires a $30.00 payment). Pre-payment in person must be made with cash.

CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK SEARCH RETURNS

A criminal record check search may provide the following information obtained from Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC);

Criminal record information
Information regarding current status of court cases where the applicant is an accused currently before the courts

Both a Criminal Record Check Request and a Vulnerable Sector search MAY include charges which are pending before the courts or charges where the applicant was not fingerprinted.

The application generally takes 5 - 7 business days to process and theapplicant will attend at the police station in person to pick up the Criminal Record Search Certificate.

VULNERABLE SECTOR SEARCH 

In addition to the Criminal Record Search a person may also request a Vulnerable Sector Search. This search is for individuals who will be employed or who volunteer in vulnerable positions such as; foster parents, adoptions, social workers, etc. Also required when working and/or volunteering with children, the elderly, sick or infirm.

This request is to be used by a person applying for a position with an organization responsible for the well-being of one or more children or vulnerable persons, if the position is a position of authority or trust relative to those children or vulnerable persons the applicant must consent to a search made for criminal convictions to determine if the applicant has been convicted of a sexual offence listed in the schedule to the Criminal Records Act and has been pardoned.

The Belleville Police Service can only complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening for residents of the City of Belleville. If you are a non resident of the City of Belleville you must make this application to the police service that is responsible for policing in your jurisdiction.

If through the process of completing the Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Screening request, the Belleville Police Service determines the home address given is outside the City of Belleville they will process and complete the Criminal Record Check as requested and charge you accordingly however this will NOT include the Vulnerable Sector Screening. Belleville Police will notify you in this regard at the time you attend to pick up the Criminal Record Check.

Volunteer Criminal Record Search Application Requirements

Volunteers with any non-profit organization working with the vulnerable sector are required to complete the Criminal Record Search for service with the Vulnerable Sector. They must also submit the following: 

         1.      A letter from an authorized agency identifying the non-profit agency, the non-profit organization number (if available),
                and  the name of the volunteer within the letter.  You will also be required to submit a name of a contact person and
                phone number for the volunteer agency to have the processing fee waived.

2.       Bring two (2) pieces of valid identification (with at least 1 piece of photo id).

The applicant must produce two pieces of identification that confirm his/her name, date of birth and address. One piece of identification must include a photo. The following is a list of pieces of items that could be considered acceptable forms of identification.

FREE Volunteer Criminal Records Checks

Belleville Police Service offers volunteers with non-profit organizations working with the vulnerable sector a free CRC. This service will be offered bi-weekly.

Citizens requiring a volunteer CRC may attend at the Children's Safety Village from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the subsequent (bi-weekly) from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please see the EVENTS Calendar within this web site for all scheduled dates.

Belleville Police Service will continue to accept Volunteer CRC Applications on this schedule.

Volunteers will be able to complete their CRC application at the Children's Safety Village and in 5 to 7 business days pick up their CRC by attending the main reception area of Belleville Police Service (93 Dundas Street East, Belleville).

Volunteers with any non-profit organization working with the vulnerable sector are required to complete the Criminal Record Search for service with the Vulnerable Sector. They must also submit the following:

There is NO fee for service for a Volunteer Criminal Record Check if you attend on the designated dates.

Volunteers who attend the Belleville Police Service at any time outside of the aforementioned dates and times to have their Criminal Record Search processed will be required to pay a fee for service of $30.00.

NOTE: The Belleville Police Service can only complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening for residents of the City of Belleville. If you are a non resident of the City of Belleville you must make this application to the police service that is responsible for policing in your jurisdiction.

Eligibility for FREE Volunteer Criminal Record Checks & Vulnerable Sector Search

The Belleville Police Service will complete a free Criminal Record Check on these dates for any person who is volunteering in a school or organization within the City of Belleville, We will also complete these for our residents, regardless where they volunteer outside our City; however a letter from the volunteering agency is still required.

Only residents within the City of Belleville are eligible for a free Vulnerable Sector Search which is the second part the CRC. However the Vulnerable Sector Search is a requirement if you are volunteering with an agency responsible for the well being of a vulnerable person. If you are a non resident of the City of Belleville you must make this application to the police service that is responsible for policing in your jurisdiction.

If you are a non resident of the City of Belleville however are voluteering with a non-profit volunteer organization within the City of Belleville that does not require vulnerable sector screening then you are eligible for the free CRC portion of the application.

These records checks are NOT FREE for non-residents of the City of Belleville for volunteering activities in schools and/or organizations outside of our community.

Out of Country or Long Distance Requests

Vulnerable Record Searches will not be conducted for individuals who reside outside the City of Belleville.

Basic Criminal Searches (C.P.I.C. only) will be conducted under the following conditions:

In order to conduct a Criminal Record Search from outside of our area, you must attend a Notary Public with the following documents:

             2 pieces of government issued identification (1 of which must contain a photograph)
             A letter of request to have your Criminal Record Search done, including the reason for the request (e.g. Pardon,   
                    Immigration, Employment, etc.). 
             Please include your full name (all names ever used), date of birth and full address history for the past 5 years.

If you wish to have someone else pick up the completed document on your behalf, you must indicate that we have 
      your permission to release it to that particular individual and identify them by name, date of birth and address.

Please send sufficient payment in Canadian funds for your request.  Only bank drafts or money orders made payable to "The Belleville Police Service” will be accepted (no personal cheques). Fee is $40.00 Canadian funds.

The letter and photocopied identification (2 pieces as indicated above) must be signed and embossed by the Notary Public.  Only original copies of these signed documents will be accepted by the Belleville Police Service.
