Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation

Belleville, Ontario - The Belleville Police Service is one of 26 member Police Services in the Province of Ontario’s Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet. The Belleville Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) trained officers work with law enforcement agencies around the world as the internet has no boundaries.

The ICE members of the Belleville Police Service focus on local exploitation cases, but many times those cases begin in other jurisdictions or start in the Belleville area and continue elsewhere.

During the month of November, the Belleville Police Service was able to conclude two lengthy ICE investigations. Numerous  other investigations are still active.

In May of 2018, the Belleville Police Service began a criminal investigation as a result of a call for service. ICE trained officers assisted with the investigation and as a result 36 year-old Jason Andrew BARRY was charged with a number of criminal charges some of which include:

-9 Counts - possession of child pornography

-8 Counts - making child pornography

                                 -7 Counts - sexual interference

                                 -6 Counts - sexual assault under 16

-2 Counts - sexual assault with a weapon

                                 -8 Counts - voyeurism under 16

Barry is currently in custody pending the outcome of these charges.

A second ICE investigation began in April 2018 with the assistance of the Kingston Police Force ICE Unit. As a result of this lengthy investigation, a search warrant was executed at a north-end Belleville residence. Johnson Michael RAE, 30 years of age, of Belleville was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography and making child pornography available.  RAE was held for a show cause hearing on November 28th and then released with conditions.
