Warming vehicle warning

On January 12th, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. Belleville Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle which had just occurred in the west end of the city.  The owner had started the vehicle and left it to warm up.  A responding officer located the vehicle parked a block away with no one inside but with the engine still running.  The vehicle was returned to the owner.  Belleville police are reminding the public to lock the doors of their vehicles if they choose to let them idle unattended.  Also, the removal of the key fob from the area around newer vehicles does not cause the vehicle to shut off if they are put in gear.  Once the vehicle engine is started it can be driven without the fob until the engine is shut off.
