The Belleville Police Services Board is pleased to announce the promotion of Chris Barry to the rank of Deputy Chief of the Belleville Police Service.  The promotion comes into effect on Friday January 1, 2021.

Chris Barry was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2005 and Staff Sergeant in 2010.  In 2015, he was elevated to Inspector of the Operations Division before serving as Inspector of the Support Services Division.  He returned to Operations in 2020 and assumed the rank of Acting Deputy Chief following the retirement of Chief Ron Gignac.

Deputy Chief Barry has also served on many Boards and Committees including the Quinte Humane Society, Counselling Services of Belleville and District, Supervised Alternative Learning with the Hastings-Prince Edward District School Board, the City of Belleville Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity Committee and others.

Belleville Police Services Board Chair Jack Miller stated, "It is particularly gratifying that we were able to promote someone from within our own ranks to the position of Deputy Chief.   Over his 28 year career with the Belleville Police Service Barry has demonstrated his ability, desire and commitment to serve all citizens.  His qualifications for this new responsibility are first rate."

Chief Mike Callaghan stated, “Deputy Chief Chris Barry will be a great asset to our community and our police service in his new capacity.  Deputy Barry has strong leadership skills and deep-rooted ties with our community.  I am confident that Deputy Barry will excel in his new role within our police service.”
