Internet Frauds

Belleville, Ontario The Belleville Police Service is investigating two potential frauds over the internet. A City resident reported receiving an e-mail purported to be from the Canada Revenue Agency advising him that he was to receive a tax refund.  The resident was asked for personal information in order to process the return. On this form the resident noticed city and state listed as opposed to city and province.  The form went on to ask for credit card information. This was a fraudulent e-mail.

In the second incident, a city resident received an e-mail from Mexico from a male inquiring about child care fees. At one point the suspect offered to pay in advance for one month of child care.  He also offered to send a cheque with the amount being much higher than the agreed upon price. He asked for the difference to be sent back to him.  The resident became suspicious and learned that this was a fraud.
