Major Gas Explosion- Belleville Ontario                          

                                                                                   At 11:35Am during road construction a gas line was struck. As a result an explosion occurred igniting a residence. Police/Fire/EMS is evacuating the area. All traffic and pedestrians are prohibited from the area at this time.

** Update: Area Secured- **

The immediate area has been secured by Police and natural gas has been shut off. All residential addresses have been secured by Police. School boards have been contacted and are making arrangements for the safety of the children. All traffic in the area is prohibited in the following areas: West Border- Sidney Street between Benjamin St, Lewis St. Purdy Street including Wallbridge Cres. up to and including the CN rail line with an East border of Frank Street.  Police will notify the public when restrictions are removed.

**Update- House Fire**

At the time of the explosion a Belleville Police Officer and construction worker were present. A homeowner was removed from the affected residence prior to it being fully engulfed by fire.
