The Belleville Police Service kicked off Ontario’s annual Crime Prevention Week which runs from November 6 to November 12, 2016. The week-long promotion of crime prevention is supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, and all police services across Ontario. The theme for this year’s Crime Prevention Week is Planning Together for Safer Communities.
One of our more successful Crime Prevention campaigns, Lock it or Lose it, will be running this month and into December as the holiday season approaches.
Lock it or Lose it, in association with the OACP and the Insurance Bureau of Canada, is a crime prevention program aimed at reducing thefts from motor vehicles. Members of Belleville Community Policing will be volunteering their time and checking vehicles in parking lots throughout the city of Belleville during this festive season to ensure vehicles are locked and valuables are kept out of sight. Pamphlets will be placed on vehicle windshields advising vehicle owners of the inspection.
This campaign highlights the importance of everyone working together for a safer community.
