UPDATE –January 8th, 2018 -  Fire


Belleville, On - On the 7th of January 2018 at approximately 3:35 am, Belleville Police responded to assist Belleville Fire Service at the scene of a fire at an apartment building located at 249 Bridge Street East. Police were advised that a fire had been contained to a single apartment on the 15th floor of the building. Inside the apartment an adult male was located deceased.


The Belleville Police Criminal Investigations Division has assigned an investigator, as is the case with any sudden death at a fire scene, to determine the cause of both the fire and the death. Police have positively identified the male and notification of next of kin is underway. Police will work with the Ontario Fire Marshals Office to determine the facts of this occurrence.


A post mortem is scheduled for later today.

Belleville, Ont. – On January 7th 2018 at 3:35 am Belleville Police attended to an apartment building fire on Bridge Street West where Belleville Fire Services  were on scene battling a large structure fire.  EMS was also at the location assisting with injuries and transportation to Hospital.  One person perished during the occurrence.  The Coroner’s Office along with police and fire investigators are continuing the investigation. Motorists using this area are asked to avoid Bridge Street West between Palmer Road and Sidney Street.
