Foot Pursuit - Fraud Suspect
On 07 July 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Belleville Police Service responded to a North Front Street and Tracey Street area business where employees were reporting a suspected money related fraud in progress. Upon uniformed police arrival the male suspect took off on the run and a short foot pursuit ended in the Finch Drive area where the suspect struggled with the lone Officer and grabbed at the Officer’s holstered handgun in an attempt to disarm him. The Officer was able to physically subdue the suspect.
A 32 year old Toronto man was held overnight for a bail hearing today on 08 July 2016.
He is charged with: assault police while resisting arrest, attempt to disarm police officer, breach of recognizance x2, uttering a forged document x2 and personation.
The investigation is continuing by Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Branch of the Belleville Police Service.
