Vehicle Pursuit and Foot Pursuit Ends in Arrest of 23 year old Male
On Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 8:35 am, an officer on patrol observed a Honda Civic on Cannifton Road in the City of Belleville with unauthorized licence plates. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver failed to stop. A short pursuit occurred but was terminated due to public safety after the driver drove through the intersection of Centre Street and Safe Blvd failing to stop for the stop sign at a high rate of speed.
Police continued to follow the vehicle at a safe distance on Airport Pkwy when the vehicle stopped at Airport and Elmwood Drive and the driver fled the vehicle on foot. A lengthy foot pursuit ensued to the east end of Station Street at Farley Avenue where the male was apprehended, resisted arrest and the CEW was effectively deployed. As a result of this incident, a 23 year old male of Picton, Ontario has been arrested and charged with: Flight from Police, Dangerous Driving, Breach of Probation, Resist Arrest, Driving while under Suspension, Owner Operate Motor Vehicle No Insurance, and Using Plates not Authorized. The male is being held for a bail hearing on 10 June 2016.
