Belleville Police Service and Belleville Fire Department receive funding from Enbridge Safe Community Program.
The Belleville Police Service and the Belleville Fire Department have been successful in receiving funding through a joint grant application to the Enbridge Safe Communities Program. Marijuana grow operations pose a serious threat to the safety and security of municipalities throughout Ontario. The detection, investigation, dismantling and return of premises to legitimate use is a complex undertaking requiring the cooperation of Police, Fire and Municipal officials. A coordinated approach to this problem helps in ensuring that the entire process is conducted in a safe and effective manner. The safety of the personnel involved in the process and that of the public is of paramount importance. A protocol between the Belleville Police Service, the Belleville Fire Department and the City of Belleville was signed in June, 2009. The grant application outlined the partnership in training, investigating and decommissioning marijuana grow operations. The application was successful and $1,000.00 was received to purchase equipment to enhance the safety of our members when responding to the needs in the community and therefore ultimately enhance the safety of all of our citizens. The Police and Fire Services wish to publicly thank Enbridge for its support and partnership through this grant program.
