Theft from Motor Vehicle ? Youth Arrested

Belleville, Ontario ? On August 11, 2011 at 2:30 a.m. a Bellville Police zone patrol officer was checking properties on Albany Heights in the North West end of the city.

A home owner in the neighbourhood observed the officer driving through a parking lot and as the officer left the witness saw two males running from the lot in the opposite direction. The youths were last seen running west bound on West Mount Dr.

Police were made aware of this and immediately pursued the suspects. The Belleville Police Canine Unit also responded to this call for service and a track was initiated. As a result of a successful track a 17 year old Oshawa youth was arrested on Palmer Road.

Police recovered property stolen from both Albany Heights and West Mount Dr. The youth was charged with Theft Under and Prowl by Night. He has been held in custody awaiting a Bail hearing set for later today.

The second male was not located and the only description is a male, tall, and in his mid to late teens.

Police are asking the assistance of the public in locating a red computer case which contains work related documents that are of importance to the owner. The owner would appreciate if anyone should find this bag to please turn it over to police.

This is another example of the community and the police proactively working together to prevent crime.

 Lap top Case - Located (9:53 a.m.)

The Belleville Police Service would like to thank members of the public as well as the media for assisting in locating the Red Laptop case that was reported as stolen in the earlier release. This case and its contents were located by a citizen in the Albany Heights area. This property was returned to the owner.

Children's Fun Day ? THANK YOU

Police Constables Miranda Orr and Mike Kiley from the Belleville Police Service hosted the 2nd annual Quinte Children's Fun Day at West Zwicks Park on the 4th of August 2011. This event featured a four on four ball hockey tourney with LA Kings Brad Richardson. The day also consisted of golf activities for the children by Black Bear Ridge as well as a BBQ and several NHL items for raffle. The ages of the children ranged from 8 to 13years of age. The funds raised that day were $3000 all going towards the Quinte Children's Foundation-Playing for Keeps Program. This program allows under privileged children within our community to be involved and active in sports and activities. In 2010 the Playing for Keeps Program assisted over 360 children within our community. Being involved in sports allows children to participate within a team, build confidence, self esteem and away from a possible negative environment. The day was a great success and this event also builds rapport between our youth and the police.

Thank you to all the police personal that assisted and a special thank you to all of the children that participated and to our Sponsors.
