Belleville, Ontario –On December 10th, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., police were called to a purse snatching incident on Sidney Street. A woman had exited a business when she was approached by another woman who was asking for change for a toonie. When the victim pulled out her wallet, the woman attempted to pull the wallet from her grasp. In the ensuing struggle, the victim was able to keep her wallet, but the woman pulled the purse off of her shoulder. The suspect fled on foot and left the area in a red van.

At 9:56 p.m. an Officer on patrol observed a red van parked at a gas station in the City's north end. The woman inside the kiosk matched the description of the suspect. The Officer further observed this woman with several cartons of cigarettes and receipts. The receipts confirmed that the victim's stolen credit card had been used to make the purchases. A 28 year old Belleville woman was arrested for Robbery, Using a Stolen Credit Card, and Possession of Stolen Property. The victim's purse was recovered from inside the van. The suspect remains in custody awaiting a Bail Hearing on December 11th, 2012.

The victim, a woman in her 60's, suffered minor injuries in the initial struggle. She did not require medical attention. Police are continuing this investigation as several other purchases had been made on the credit card.
