On the 11th of August 2015 at 1:52PM, Belleville Police and Paramedics responded to the area of Adam Street and University Avenue, on the report of a female that had been hit by a truck.  The vehicle had fled the scene before police arrived.  A 20 yr old Belleville woman received serious injuries to her leg in the collision, and was transported to Quinte HealthCare – Belleville General Hospital.  Police reviewed security camera footage from a nearby business, and were subsequently able to identify the vehicle involved.  Police located the vehicle in Prince Edward County, where an 18 yr old Marmora, Ont man was arrested.  William Hewitt was charged with “failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm.”  He was released from custody with a court date in September.  Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Cst. Brad Stitt of the Belleville Police Service Traffic Management Unit or Crime Stoppers.
