BELLEVILLE - The Belleville Police Service is continuing an investigation into an event that occurred on O’Neill Drive.

The Belleville police were called to the residence on Friday evening, January 8, 2016 and located a male inside who had sustained gunshot wounds. The male victim has been released from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

 

Officers who arrived at the scene assisted Hastings County EMS paramedics to get the victim to hospital for treatment. In addition, front-line members of the Belleville Police Service – with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police TRU team and OPP Canine Unit – searched the area for a male suspect.

At the request of police, for a short period of time during the search, several local residents in the area were sheltered in place as a precaution.

The suspect is described as in his mid-30s, with a shaved head, a trimmed goatee, at approximately 5’8” in height, with a stocky build. The suspect was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident and fled in an unknown direction on foot.

Police investigators are also looking for information regarding a suspicious vehicle observed in the area of O’Neill Drive before the incident. The vehicle is described as a dark-coloured four-door sedan.

The Belleville Police Service would like to reaffirm with the public that this was an isolated incident and as with all criminal activity within the City of Belleville the incident will be thoroughly investigated.
