A routine traffic stop in the Dundas St. W., area resulted in a local man being arrested for driving while prohibited. On further investigation, it was revealed that the 27-year old man was wanted by the Kingston Police Service on three charges of Breach of Probation. He was released on a Promise to Appear on the Belleville charge, and then was turned over to Kingston Police to deal with their charges at.


An alert officer on routine patrol earlier this morning was checking people in the Bridge St. W., area and came across a male who was on court conditions that he obeys a curfew to be inside his home by 9:00pm. Further, not only was he to be home well before being arrested, but he was on a second condition that he not be found in the City of Belleville. A 17-year old youth, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act is being held on two counts of Breaching Conditions of an Undertaking which were set in place from previous charges laid by Belleville Police late last year.

A disturbance at an east end home just after 1:00 a.m., resulted in a 29-year old Belleville man being arrested on charges of Breaching a previous Officer-in-Charge Undertaking which he signed after being arrested just two weeks ago. In the latter part of February, 2009 the man was arrested by police for Assault and Breach of Probation.

As police responded to the disturbance, the man was found to be hiding in a closet inside the home. He was ordered out of the closet, and gave himself up shortly after. The man was taken into custody and is being held, pending a show cause hearing set for March 16th 2009 on two counts of Breaching his Undertaking. The conditions consisted of alcohol and non-association clauses.


At 2:20 a.m., this morning an officer on patrol came across a male intoxicated by the consumption of alcohol in the Front St and Bridge St area. The 21-year old Belleville man was arrested under the authority of the Liquor Licence Act for his own protection. He was taken into custody and release later in the day. The set fine for Intoxicated in a Public Place is $65.00.


Police responded with the Belleville Fire Department to an apartment fire at 191 Palmer Rd at approximately 2:35 a.m., this morning. Occupants of the apartment reported coming home to smoke and flames at the time. Firefighters responded to the blaze on the 16th floor and were successful in bringing it under control. There were no injuries reported. Fire investigators will work to determine the cause. The apartment suffered fire, smoke, and water damage.
