Motor Vehicle Collisions (witnesses sought)
Belleville, Ontario – On May 12th, 2018, at 6:18 p.m. police attended 305 North Front Street for a parking lot hit and run accident. A couple had left their sedan parked and unattended in the parking lot. During this time a beige, newer model Chrysler van struck the sedan. The suspect vehicle stopped momentarily then sped away at a high rate of speed. The van will have damage (grey body paint, scratches and dents) along the mid and rear passenger side of the vehicle. On May 12th, 2018, at 11:09 a.m. police attended at the intersection of Pinnacle Street and East Moira Street regarding a two-car collision. Both vehicles were towed from the scene and there were no reported injuries. The investigation is continuing. Any witnesses can contact Constable DeSousa at 613-966-0882 ext. 4184.
Belleville, Ontario – On May 12th, 2018, at 2:52 p.m. an officer on patrol observed a Volkswagen turning onto Cedar Street. The officer recognized the driver as a prohibited driver. The officer activated rooflights on Henry Street and the car accelerated away. At this point the officer terminated the pursuit after factoring in the risk to public safety. The car was last seen turning south onto Octavia Street. A short time later the car was located abandoned on Highland Ave. by responding officers. The car had improper plates on it and was towed. The 24-year-old Belleville man was not located. His list of charges include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, driving while under suspension, using unauthorized licence plates, and driving without valid insurance. There were no injuries; nor was there any property damage during the short pursuit. The investigation is continuing.
Liquor seizure and charges
Belleville, Ontario – On May 12th, 2018, at 10:00 p.m. an officer initiated a traffic stop on North Front Street in relation to a red light offence. The 19-year-old driver had been consuming alcohol. There were several open containers of alcohol beside the driver in the vehicle which were seized. The Picton man was charged with ‘young driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero’, driving with an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and disobeying a red light.
Belleville, Ontario – On May 13th, 2018, at 12:33 a.m. police attended at a drive-thru at a restaurant on North Front Street. The staff reported that the driver of a Central taxi was impaired. The cab was located nearby and the driver was arrested for impaired driving. Once at the station the male refused to provide breath samples. 40-year-old Jamie Michael Moore of Belleville was charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide breath samples. His cab was impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days. He will appear in court on May 31st, 2018.
