Water main break – traffic advisory

Belleville, ONT – On August 13th 2019 at 9:33 p.m. a police officer on patrol in the east end of the city came across a violent water main break.  The incident was observed at the intersection of Bridge Street East and Herchimer Avenue.  Water was spewing from sewers and both sides of the intersection, causing the road ways to quickly flood.  The intersection was closed off to traffic at this location and all the way westbound to MacDonald Avenue. The Belleville Fire Department, Public Works and representatives from Belleville Water and Wastewater also attended.  The break and ensuing damage was eventually contained from the intersection of Herchimer Avenue and Bridge Street East to just west of Kelly’s Guardian Drug Store while repair crews worked to fix the damage.  There was no report of any injury.  Property damage estimates are not currently known.  It is unknown at this time when the intersection will be fully open.
