Hit and Run suspect surrenders
Belleville, Ontario - On September 12th, 2017, at 9:13 p.m. a cyclist was struck on Station Street at Albion Street by a maroon Dodge pick-up truck. The pick-up truck failed to remain at the scene.
On September 13th, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. a 45-year old Belleville man turned himself in at the police station. He was charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident. He will appear in court on October 12th, 2017. The cyclist was treated for his injuries at BGH and released.
Belleville, Ontario – On September 12th, 2017, at 1:39 p.m. an officer on patrol observed a car speeding through the parking lot on the east side of the Bayview Mall. During the subsequent traffic stop, the driver provided a false name. He was arrested for obstructing a police officer. The officer observed an 8-inch knife beside the driver’s seat as well as a canister of “bear mace”. Once his true identity was determined, a check revealed that he was prohibited from possessing any weapons. 32-year-old Aaron Hills of Trenton was charged with obstructing police, weapons dangerous, possession of a prohibited weapon and possess a weapon while prohibited. He will appear in court on October 19th, 2017.
A passenger in the vehicle was also in possession of “bear mace”. He was arrested and a search revealed a quantity of methamphetamine (crystal meth) in his sock. 29-year-old Matthew Brushey of Belleville was charged with weapons dangerous, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on October 19th, 2017.
Belleville, Ontario – On September 12th, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. police attended on Lingham Street at Meyers Street in relation to a three-car accident. Multiple 911 calls were received as the occupants of the cars were fighting on the street. Witnesses indicated that one male had brandished a knife while another had a baseball bat. It turned out that a Lincoln MKX had been stolen minutes earlier from Station Street parking lot. Several witnesses took pursuit in their personal vehicles and forced the Lincoln to a stop on Lingham Street. The driver exited the Lincoln and brandished a knife. Once he saw that he was outnumbered he threw the knife over a fence. 32-year old Shane Raymond Kellar of Quinte West was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle of a value exceeding $5000.00, dangerous driving, and weapons dangerous. He was also wanted by the Belleville Police Service on charges including assault causing bodily harm, weapons dangerous, possession of a controlled substance, failing to appear in court, and two counts of breach of probation. The knife was recovered at the scene. The accused suffered minor injuries but did not require medical attention. He was held for a bail hearing on September 13th, 2017.
Belleville, Ontario – On September 13th, 2017 at 2:29 p.m. a traffic stop was conducted on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road. The driver, a 35-year old Belleville man, was a prohibited driver as a result of a conviction in criminal court. His vehicle was impounded for 45 days. He will appear in criminal court on a charge of driving while disqualified.
Belleville, Ontario – On September 13th, 2017 at 10:34 p.m. police received a call about an intoxicated male in the bushes directly across from the police station on George Street. Closer inspection revealed that the highly intoxicated male had toppled off of his e-bike and was tangled up in the bushes. The 44-year old Belleville man was arrested for his own protection under the Liquor Licence Act. He was issued a provincial offence notice for being intoxicated in a public place. The male sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.
Impaired driver//short pursuit
Belleville, Ontario – On September 14th, 2017 at 3:10 a.m. an officer was performing traffic duties in relation to the bridge repairs to the Norris Whitney Bridge. The officer observed a southbound car braking to a stop on Baybridge Road. The car reversed back up to Dundas Street West. Responding units attempted to stop the vehicle on Parker Street but the vehicle failed to stop. The car overheated on Bridge Street West at James Street. A 19-year-old Prince Edward County man was arrested for Flight from police and impaired driving. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also seized from the vehicle. The driver was charged with Flight from police and Novice driver – Blood alcohol level above zero. He will appear in court on October 19th, 2017.
