Belleville, Ontario ? On 15 February, 2011 a 70 year old Belleville citizen attended at Belleville Police Service to report that an unknown male contacted the citizen pretending to be a family member in need of immediate financial assistance. The citizen acted quickly (as had been requested) and made arrangements to send money with the assistance of a "money transfer? type of business.
The Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre reported a marked increase in this type of scam in December 2010. Belleville Police continue to receive complaints from citizens where this type of scam is being attempted and sometimes accomplished. Police are warning the public of this fraud and reminding citizens of the Competition Bureau of Canada's program Recognize It. Report It. Stop It.
DONATION TO KIDS, COPS AND CANADIAN TIRE FISHING DAYS
A group of enthusiastic fishermen gathered on 5 February, 2011 in the area of Big Bay on the Bay of Quinte for a fishing derby. This group has graciously decided to donate the proceeds from this derby to the Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Days program.
BPS would like to invite you to attend at 93 Dundas Street, East, on 15 Feb/2011 at 1:00 p.m. for the presentation of a plaque and the proceeds. The group is hoping the media will continue to support the kids of our community by highlighting how the fishing experience develops self esteem and respect for nature and the environment.
