Impaired Driving
Belleville, Ont. - On June 16, 2009, at 6:30 p.m., a two car accident occurred on Dundas St. West at Bay Bridge Road. The drivers exited their cars and the driver at fault pleaded with the other driver ?don?t call the Police?. At this point the driver at fault got back in his car to drive away. The other driver reached through the open window and eventually removed the keys to the car. This led to both drivers fighting on the roadway. This prompted approximately fifteen 911 calls to Police. Once on scene, it was determined that the driver at fault in the accident was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested for this offence. Once at the Station, the accused refused to provide a breath sample. The accused also had a ?life-time? driving prohibition. The 48 year Belleville man was held for a bail hearing on the following charges:
(a) Impaired Driving
(b) Refusal to Provide Breath Sample
(c) Drive while Prohibited
(d) Failing to Remain at the Scene of an Accident(e) Assault
The count of assault is in relation to the assault on the other driver. The other driver suffered minor scrapes during the assault. A quantity of open liquor was also seized from the offending vehicle.
