On-line Fraud

 

Belleville, Ontario – On April 16th, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. a resident reported an on-line fraud. She indicated that a message appeared on her computer screen that she had a virus and had to call a 1-206 #. She paid $200.00 for a one-year subscription but her computer was still locked up. She called the number back and was told that she had to pay an additional fee of $500.00. This fee was paid but the computer was still locked.

 

In the event of computer disruptions people are encouraged to contact local computer companies as opposed to sending money on-line.

 

 

Bail Violations

 

Belleville, Ontario – On April 17th, 2017, at 2:09 a.m. police attended at a licenced establishment on North Front Street in relation to an unwanted male. The male was arrested for his own protection under the Liquor Licence Act for being intoxicated in a public place. A check revealed that this male had been released on conditions which included a condition to “abstain from the consumption of alcohol”. He had two cell phones in his possession which violated another condition of his release as he was not to be in possession of a cellular communication device. 21-year-old Connor Stone of Belleville was charged with two counts of breaching his undertaking. He will appear in court on May 4th, 2017.
