Armed Robbery - Solved

Belleville, Ontario ? On July 21, 2009, a transport driver was robbed at gun point while sitting in his transport while parked in the Quinte Mall parking lot.

The victim, a 51 year old transport driver from St Catherine, Ontario had picked up 25000 kgs of frozen chicken feet from the Toronto area and was taking it to Montreal where it was to be shipped to Hong Kong.

The victim drove as far as Belleville and pulled in to the Quinte Mall at approximately 10:30 p.m., parked in the front parking lot to complete some paper work and sleep.

The victim was suddenly awakened when three males entered the cab of his tractor and pointed a hand gun at him. The victim was tied up in the sleeper of the truck.

The truck and the victim were driven to an unknown location and the suspects disconnected the trailer and then drove the truck and victim to another location. The victim was able to free himself and went for help and was located in the Town of Markham where York Regional Police became involved in the investigation.

The Belleville Police Service Criminal Investigations Division became involved in a joint investigation with Peel Regional Police Service and other police services as further investigation revealed there had been other armed hijackings of tractor trailer drivers in Ontario.

As a result of this ongoing investigation 5 males from the Toronto area were arrested by Peel Regional Police on November 18, 2009, and charged with Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit and Indictable Offence Section, Kidnapping and Use Imitation Firearm while Committing an Offence in relation to the incident here in Belleville.

The trailer was later recovered in Peel Region empty of its 25,000 kg of frozen chicken feet.


Belleville, Ontario ? On December 17, 2009 at 2:00 a.m., police received a report of a theft of a purse from a North Front Street Bar. Further investigation revealed the victim had been sitting at a table when the suspect took her purse off the table and while walking away he placed it inside his jacket to conceal it. The suspect was arrested by police outside the bar. A 29 year old Belleville male was charged with one count of Theft Under. He will appear in court in January 2010. The purse was returned to the owner.


Belleville, Ontario ? On December 17 ? 18, 2009, The Belleville Police Service R.I.D.E. was set up over night at various locations within the City of Belleville and while 600 vehicles were checked, there were no Drinking & Driving violations found.
