The Belleville Police Service responded to 48 calls between December 16th 2018 at 5:00 a.m. and December 17th 2018 at 5:00 a.m.
Belleville, Ontario – On December 16th 2018 at 11:07 a.m., police were conducting traffic safety in the College Street East and Cannifton Road area. A 31-year old man was observed to have disobeyed a stop sign. A further check of the driver revealed his driver’s licence was suspended, but he had yet to be served notice of this. The man was issued a notification of suspension along with an offence ticket for disobey stop sign – fail to stop.
On December 16th 2018 at 4:11 p.m., police were conducting traffic safety on the west hill. A motor vehicle was stopped in the area of College Street West and Frank Street. An investigation revealed a 44-year old city man was driving without proper credentials. He was charged under the Highway Traffic Act and summonsed to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in January 2019 on charges of drive motor vehicle – no currently validated permit, and driving while under suspension. His motor vehicle has been impounded for 45 days.
Theft of Santa Claus
Belleville, Ontario – On December 16th 2018 between 7:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., an unknown thief stole a Santa Claus decoration from outside a business at the top end of Front Street. The complainant in the matter, a local businessman, advised police he was inside his shop preparing for a new opening. He attended outside to retrieve the Santa Claus, and observed it to be missing. The Santa is described as being 2.5 feet in height, made of plastic, and has an electrical cord attached. When plugged in the Santa lights up and waves his arms. Anybody with information on who may be responsible for this theft is asked to please contact Investigating Officer Sgt. Car crash results in charge
Belleville, Ontario – On December 17th 2018 at 12:19 a.m., police and Hastings-Quinte EMS responded to a single motor vehicle crash where a car left the roadway and entered the ditch. The event occurred in the area of Highway #2 East and Point Anne Lane. An investigation resulted in a 20-year old city man being charged with novice driver blood alcohol content above zero. His vehicle was towed from the location. Injuries to a female passenger in the automobile were reported as “minimal.”
Arrested on warrant
Belleville, Ontario – On the morning of December 17th 2018 at 12:35 a.m., city police were contacted about a group of males causing noise in the area of Geddes Street and College Street East. Police responded, investigated, and arrested a 41-year old city man who was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for being unlawfully at large. The warrant was held by the Napanee Ontario Provincial Police. The male was also charged by city police for driving while disqualified. The man was issued an appearance notice on this charge, and was turned over to the Napanee O.P.P. for the execution of their warrant.
