Accidents

Belleville, Ontario On December 18th, 2012, police responded to 9 accidents between 8:15 a.m. and 9:15 p.m.

At 8:15 a.m., Police, Fire and EMS responded to a two car accident on Herchimer Ave. at Southview Cres. One person was treated for minor injuries. An 18 year old Belleville man was charged with Careless Driving.

At 8:21 a.m., Police responded to a two car accident on Moira St. East.. This minor accident was referred to the Collision Reporting Center.

At 9:27 a.m., Police, Fire and EMS responded to an accident on Dundas St. East and Pinnacle St. involving a tractor trailer and a car. The tractor trailer, who had been re-routed through Belleville because of the Highway 401 closure, was attempting a wide turn from Dundas St. East. onto Pinnacle St.. There were no reported injuries, and the accident remains under investigation.

At 9:54 a.m. Police responded to a two car accident on Dundas St. West at Baybridge Rd.. This matter was settled between drivers.

At 12:25 p.m., a garbage truck and a car were involved in an accident on Stanley St at Station St. The car was towed, and the accident remains under investigation.

At 2:12 p.m., police responded to a single vehicle rollover on Mudcat Road in Thurlow Ward. A 26 year old Wellington man was charged with Careless Driving. No one was injured in this accident.

At 2:23 p.m. police responded to a two car accident on Sidney St. at Wilkins St. This accident remains under investigation.

At 4:45 p.m., Police attended on Old Highway 2 in relation to a two car accident. No charges were laid given conflicting versions and no witnesses.

At 9:15 p.m., Police investigated a hit-and run accident involving a parked car at the Quinte Mall parking lot. A witness had provided the licence plate of the vehicle which failed to remain. Police spoke with the owner of this vehicle and the driver attended at the Station a short time later. No charges were laid in this incident.

Shoplifter

Belleville, Ontario On December 18th, 2012, at 7:15 p.m. police attended at a grocery store in the city's north end in relation to a shoplifter who had been arrested by store security. It was learned that the accused had stolen 4 roasts and 12 steaks with a total value of $225.00. A further check revealed that this male was wanted in Kirkland Lake and Kapuskasing for similar thefts. A 43 year old Belleville man was held for a Bail Hearing on December 19th, 2012 on a charge of Theft under $5000.00.
