The Belleville Police Service responded to 70 calls between June 18th 2019 at 5:00 a.m. and June 19th 2019 at 5:00 a.m.

City man charged

Belleville, ON - An investigation, which began in May of this year, has resulted in criminal charges against a city man.  Police were called at the end of May to an address on North Front Street where a woman was working.  The victim came to realize that her vehicle had been entered, and her cell phone and phone case-wallet had been stolen.  Inside the wallet were various sorts of identification and financial institution cards.  Investigation revealed that her banking card was used to make purchases at a local convenience store.  Police, with the help of the business owner and video surveillance, were able to positively identify the suspect.  On June 15th of this year, police caught up with, arrested, and charged 52-year old Dwayne Frederick Redcliffe with the offences of: Theft-under $5,000.00, Fraud-under $5,000.00, and Possession of property obtained by crime-under $5,000.00.  Redcliffe was released from custody and is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on July 11th.

Downtown assault

Belleville, ON – On June 18th 2019 at 7:01 p.m., police were called to the river-front trail west of  Front Street for a report of an altercation involving two men.  Several uniformed police units attended the area along with members of the Forensic Identification Services.  The scene was located and secured.  A 58-year old male victim was identified.  He was transported to Quinte Healthcare - Belleville General Hospital by EMS with facial lacerations and bruising. A suspect has been identified.  Police are preparing an arrest warrant for a 40-year old city man who is now facing charges of assault and breach of probation.  Police would like to thank the members of the public who stopped and assisted in this matter with descriptions, tending to the victim, and for providing video of the captured event.  The investigation continues, and police are asking for anyone else who may have witnessed this or who may have further information to please contact investigating officer Cst. Neighbour quarrel

Belleville, ON – On June 18th 2019 at 9:11 p.m., police were called to two males fighting outside of an eastend apartment complex.  As the call was received, further calls came to police attention as more people were becoming involved.  Officers quickly attended the area and spoke with a security worker who advised the males were separated with some help from others living within close proximity prior to officer’s arrival.  None of the involved people had any complaints, and there were no injuries reported.  The combatants had left their separate ways. Alcohol played a factor in this incident.
