Train Collision ? Airport Parkway

Belleville, Ontario ? On 18 March, 2011 at approximately 3:20 p.m., The Belleville Police Service, the Belleville Fire Department and Hastings-Quinte Emergency Services attended at a collision involving a VIA passenger train and a dump truck. The dump truck was crossing the tracks at a construction site located at that crossing. The VIA train was headed to Toronto from Montreal and had approximately 431 passengers on board along with 8 crew members. 5 passengers were taken to Quinte Healthcare Corporation with minor injuries after being treated by paramedics. All other passengers were taken by coach bus to Toronto.
The dump truck driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as Gerald Belanger, 64 years of age of Brockville.
The road along the tracks remains closed this morning while investigators of the Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Labour, and the Belleville Police Services finish the investigation at the scene.
