Theft from vehicles, arrest made, charges laid

Over the course of the last week, police have responded to a number of calls from residents who have found their vehicle windows smashed overnight and items stolen from their vehicle. At approximately 0730hours this morning police were called to the west end of Belleville for a suspicious person. Police located, 34 year old John Willis of no fixed address. Willis was charged with possession of stolen property, possession of break and enter tools and theft in relation to a generator which was stolen from a west end residence yesterday. The generator was recovered and police are working on contacting the owners of the remaining recovered property.

 

Rental property scams

A number of rental property scams continue to circulate on internet based forums. Police are asking people to be diligent and cautious when attempting to secure rental properties via the internet.  In many cases, when the price seems “too good to be true” it is a scam. Always confirm the legitimacy of the sources and the advertisement before transferring funds.
