Home Renovation Fraud, Belleville Ontario

With the warm weather as of late, Belleville Police have received complaints from citizens about outside home renovation work being done without proper permits, and the working crew promising less expensive rates on "cash only” deals.

One elderly couple in Belleville’s north end recently paid a large sum of cash to an outside contractor for stone installation and sealing repair for the perimeter of their home.  The job was left uncompleted last month by David Van Home Improvements.  The cash was turned over pending a "promise” to complete the job at a later date, with no receipts being issued.  Police would like to remind people to try and check on the real credentials on such construction persons/companies before agreeing to any work to be completed.  A legitimate contract should always be displayed, acknowledged and signed by all parties prior to any work being agreed to.  Any person with any information about company or any other type of similar occurrence is asked to contact Detective-Sergeant Brad Lentini at (613)-966-0882 ext. 2224 or Crimestoppers.
