The Belleville Police Service responded to 51 calls for service between January 19th, 2019 at 5:00 a.m. and January 20th, 2019 at 5:00 a.m.

Robbery/multiple assaults

Belleville, Ontario – On January 18th, 2019 at 1:50 p.m., officers attended on Newberry Street in relation to a Robbery. A woman had been punched in the head by a male who attempted to wrestle her purse away. As the woman retained her purse the male threw her onto the ground. The male fled on foot. The woman was transported to BGH by paramedics with injuries her to her shoulder and head. Officers followed the footprints and arrested a 31-year-old Toronto man.

One hour earlier officers had attended in the same area as a male had thrown a rock at a passing recycling truck. The rock shattered the passenger side window on the truck. The passenger in the truck was not injured.

This male had been charged by police for an incident on January 17th, 2019 at 7:30 p.m., at the Belleville Transit Terminal on Pinnacle Street. During a dispute over bus fare a male punched one of the employees in the face. The employee suffered a cut when his glasses broke. The male was located at the Via Train Station one hour later. As the officers attempted to arrest him he pulled away and ran. The male was tasered at this point and taken into custody.

The charges include:

  1. Robbery and Aggravated assault for the January 18th incident with the woman
  2. Mischief under $5000.00 for the damaged window on the recycling truck
  3. Assault and resist arrest for the Bus Terminal assault

Eric John Kruchka was held for a bail hearing on Sat. morning through a video link with the Kingston court house. His bail was remanded to Monday January 21st, 2019 in Belleville.

Intoxicated persons

Belleville, Ontario – On January 19th, 2019 at 11:38 p.m., officers responded to a report of an intoxicated male laying in a snowbank on Victoria Avenue at Ann Street. Paramedics were summoned as the 59-year old male had suffered frostbite. The male was transported to BGH for treatment.

On January 20th, 2019 at 12:55 a.m., officers attended at a disturbance call on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road. Two highly intoxicated individuals were arrested for their own protection under the Liquor Licence Act. The 25-year-old man and 39-year-old woman were both charged with being intoxicated in a common area.

On January 20th, 2019 at 2:50 a.m., police attended in a parking lot on North Front Street to assist paramedics. An intoxicated male was in medical distress. The 24-year-old man was transported to BGH for treatment.
