Theft from Motor Vehicle/ Fraud

Belleville, Ontario - On 19 May, 2010 at 2:30 p.m., police attended at Great St James Street in response to a complaint of mischief. Police observed the front driver's side window of a vehicle to have been smashed out. Police were unsuccessful in their attempts to contact the registered owner in order to determine what, if anything, was stolen.

On 19 May, 2010 at 5:22 p.m., police attended at the Quinte Mall in response to a complaint of fraud. Police were informed that a male and female had allegedly attended a store in the Quinte Mall and each attempted to purchase electronic merchandise with a credit card that did not belong to them. Further investigation of these incidents revealed that the victim, of the vehicle that had the smashed window from Great St James Street, was also the victim from the alleged fraudulent use of a credit card.

Micheline Menard (42 years) of Belleville has been charged with one count of Personation with Intent, one count of Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card and three counts of Possession of Stolen Credit Card. Menard will appear in provincial court on June 24, 2010.

Shane McFarland (29 years) of Belleville has been charged with Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card and one count of Possession of Stolen Credit Card. McFarland will appear in Provincial court on 21 May, 2010 for a bail hearing.

Long Weekend

Belleville, Ontario ? 21 May, 2010 is the first long weekend of the summer. Belleville Police Service would like to remind the public that if you are travelling this weekend to expect heavy traffic on the highways, practice patience when driving and don't drink and drive.
