Assault With a Weapon

Belleville, Ontario - At approximately 6:20 a.m. on March 23, 2012, police were called to Sidney Street near the Lavalee Square intersection to investigate a report that three people (2 males and one female) had fled from a taxi without paying their fare and that the male driver had been assaulted using pepper spray. The three suspects had taken the taxi from Toronto to Belleville.

One of the male suspects was located nearby suffering from a serious head injury. This male was taken by ambulance to Quinte Health Care - Belleville General Hospital and later transferred to Kingston General Hospital where he remains. Police are actively searching for the second male suspect.

The female suspect was located, arrested, and will re-appear in Provincial Court for a Bail Hearing on 26 March 2012. Caitlyn Stronge (18 years) of Belleville has been charged with:

  • one count of Breach of Recognizance,
  • one count of Transportation Fraud, and
  • one count of Assault With a Weapon is.

The taxi driver was taken to Quinte Health Care - Belleville General Hospital by ambulance and was treated for minor injuries and released.
