Belleville, Ontario – On January 23rd, 2017, at 5:40 p.m. officers attended a north end retail outlet with regards to a male shoplifter. Store security advised that the male had fled on foot. The suspect was located nearby and a short foot pursuit ensued. The suspect was restrained but continued to struggle with officers. All of the items, which had a value of $700.00, were recovered. A further check revealed that the 28-year-old Belleville man was wanted by Kingston Police Service for theft. He was held for bail on charges of theft under $5000.00, resist arrest and breach of probation. No one was injured.
The officers returned to the store at 9:30 p.m. to collect reports from the security officers when it was learned that there were two males stealing items in the store. One of the males saw an officer at the exit doors and ran back inside. He was pursued through the store by the officers. A 24-year-old Deseronto man was taken into custody and held for bail. His charges include theft under $5000.00, mischief, escape lawful custody, and breach of probation. The second male was arrested by officers in the parking lot. The male provided a false name to officers. Once his true identity was learned, it was revealed that the 36-year-old Napanee man was also wanted by Napanee OPP for assault with a weapon and failing to comply with a recognizance. He was charged with theft under $5000.00, obstructing Police, and breach of probation. He was held for a bail hearing on January 24th, 2017.
Belleville, Ontario – On January 23rd, 2017, at 7:22 p.m. officers attended on Bridge Street West at Wellington Street in relation to an intoxicated male. A 66-year-old Belleville man was arrested for his own protection under the Liquor Licence Act. He was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for being intoxicated in a public place.
Thefts from parked cars
Belleville, Ontario – On January 24th, 2017, at 3:00 a.m. officers attended in the parking lot of Belleville General Hospital as two males were observed going into parked cars. The youths were located on Bay Drive and taken into custody. Stolen property included two cell phones, an IPod, lighters, keys and jewellery. The 16 year old youth was turned over to his parents with no charges being laid. His 18-year-old accomplice, a Belleville man, was charged with possession of stolen property. He will appear in court on March 2nd, 2017.
