Belleville, Ontario ? On October 24, 2010, at 10:30 p.m. police received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked under the Norris Whitney Bridge within Zwicks Island Park. Police located the vehicle and found a male who appeared to be sleeping in the driver's seat. The vehicle was running and after several attempts to wake the driver by tapping on the window failed, the door was forced open by the registered owner of the vehicle.
The lone male occupant was awakened and found to be impaired by alcohol. Michael McGowen, 46 years old from Belleville, was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving (Care & Control) and Fail to Provide Breath Sample. He was later released and will appear in court in November.
Belleville, Ontario ? On October 24, 2010, at 5:20 a.m., two suspects entered the Petro Canada gas station on hwy 62 and robbed the gas clerk at knife point.
The victim had exited the business to remove the garbage when he was struck in the back by the door. The victim turned around and was confronted by a male described as approximately 6' tall, thin build, wearing a black "puffy coat" with his face covered with what appeared to be a red bandana.This male was pointing a knife approx., 8" in length, in the direction of the victim. A second male was standing slightly behind, also approximately, 6' tall, thin build, wearing a multi coloured "hoodie", with the hood section drawn up into a tight closure covering his face. The male with the knife directed the victim back inside the store and told him to wait there with him while the second male went to the front of the store and began putting packages of cigarettes into a bag. The two males then fled the store with the cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash. They were last seen running north on Highway 62.
The victim was not injured as a result of this robbery. This robbery is currently under investigation and police are requesting anyone with information that may assist to contact the Belleville Police Service at 613 966 0882 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222 TIPS.
Theft from Motor Vehicle(s)
Belleville, Ontario ? Over the weekend police responded to 9 theft from motor vehicles. These thefts occurred in various areas within the city occurring on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th. Seven of the vehicles had been left unlocked and in two incidents damage was done to gain entry. Suspects stole IPods, cash, CD's, car stereo and speakers.
In one incident on Moira Street east on the 22nd at 10:30 p.m. the home owner heard noises coming from his drive way and went to investigate. He observed a male in his vehicle and confronted the suspect. The suspect fled from the area however left a dark blue ?hoodie' with the letters "S" and "J" on the left breast side of the sweater in the vehicle. The suspect is described as 6' to 6'2", mid to late 20's, pale complexion; he was wearing jeans and carrying an orange flashlight.
