Belleville Police Service responded to 55 calls for service from the 25th of August 2019 at 5:00 a.m. to the 26th of August 2019 at 5:00 a.m.

Fraud

Belleville, Ontario – On the 25th of August 2019, The Belleville Police Service charged 60 year-old Belleville resident Steven Bell with yet another fraud charge in relation to taking monetary deposits and not starting the agreed upon work. The charge resulted from an investigation that was initiated on September 18th 2018, but the victim entered the original contract approximately ten months’ prior and gave Bell ample opportunity to do the work prior to involving the police. Bell was given a court date of August 29th to coincide with the other charges he is facing. The public are being encouraged to do some research with regard to contractors prior to giving deposits to ensure that they are reputable.

Impaired Driver

Belleville, Ontario – On the 25th of August 2019, officers received a call in the area of Stone and St Charles St. It appeared the vehicle had struck a curb and lost a tire. The vehicle then pulled into a driveway. When officers arrived, the driver was still behind the wheel. She was arrested for impaired driving. The driver was taken to the Belleville Police Service and provided two samples of breath. As a result, April Clarke,  a 35 year-old Belleville woman, was charged with impaired driving and released on a promise to appear with a court date in September.
