Hitching a Ride

On 26 March 2009, at 9:55 pm, Belleville Police Service responded to a complaint from a tractor trailer driver who was surprised by a male who was waving in his rear-view mirror from between his cab and trailer.  The male jumped off the rig at the Bell and North Front asking the driver how he could get back to Scarborough.  Officers located the male and made arrangements for a relative to pick him up and return him to Scarborough.  Apparently he jumped onto the rig to visit friends in Toronto but when the truck hit the 401 he was unable to get off. 

Cyclist struck
On March 26th, at 11:39 a.m., Police responded to the intersection of North Front St. and Evans St. in relation to a cyclist who had been struck by a car.  The cyclist received minor injuries as a result of his fall to the ground.  No charges were laid in this matter, and the cyclist did not require further medical attention.


Belleville man charged in March 22nd incident

On March 26th, at 2:27 p.m., a 19 year old Belleville man was charged in relation to an attempted theft of food items from a Convenience store in the City?s north end on March 22nd.  The accused attempted to walk out of the store carrying Tostitos chips, salsa sauce, and cheese sauce.  When confronted by the store clerk, the accused threw the cheese sauce at the clerk?s head.  The jar of cheese narrowly missed striking the clerk on the head.  The accused was charged with Theft Under and Assault with a Weapon (jar of cheese sauce).  He will appear in court on May 14th, 2009.


Break, Enter and Theft

On March 26th, at 2:45 p.m., Police attended at a west end residence in relation to a break-in.  The culprit(s) gained entry by breaking a basement window.  Once inside, items were stolen including an IPod, Playstation 3, and a Kodak digital camera.  The Forensic Identification Unit attended and collected physical evidence.  This investigation is continuing.


Disturbance Call

On March 26th, at 4:00 p.m., Police attended at an East end apartment in relation to a male destroying the contents.  A 21 year old Belleville man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to Quinte Health Care for treatment.  No was injured in this incident, and no charges are anticipated.


Shoplifters at Walmart

On March 26th, at 4:15 p.m., Police attended at Walmart in relation to two female shoplifters.  A young person had her matters diverted through the Youth Diversion Program, while a 22 year old Belleville woman was charged under the Trespass to Property Act.
