Belleville Police urge caution when reposting on social media

On May 17th, police received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the east end of Belleville with two females inside. The vehicle was parked on a road near were children were playing. The vehicle was described as a Chevrolet Impala. A concerned parent contacted police but the vehicle had left the area.

Follow up investigation located the vehicle and the females were spoken to and their actions were 100% innocent and just happened to be stopped near the children.

Unfortunately the story has gained traction on social media to the point where other similar vehicles were photographed and posted warning people to be aware of the occupants and accused them of trying to abduct children. This is 100% false.

The Belleville Police always recommend keeping an eye on your children and to contact police if they report any suspicious activity. However, if there is concern for safety or if a subject vehicle is sought, police will request that assistance from the public through the media in a formal request.
