Back To School – Road Safety Message


The Belleville Police Service is reminding the public that the first day of school this Fall is Tuesday, September 2nd. Motorists are reminded to take extra caution and be vigilant to other road users, particularly children.


Passing a stopped school bus with its lights flashing and stop arm deployed carries a minimum fine of $400 and 6 demerit points. 


As well, motorists are reminded that in Community Safety Zones (CSZ), fines are increased.


Speeding – 20 km/h over   $75     3 points

Speeding – 20 km/h over (CSZ)   $150   3 points

Speeding – 30 km/h over   $180   4 points

Speeding – 30 km/h over (CSZ)   $360   4 points

Fail to stop for Stop Sign   $85     3 points

Handheld device while driving       $225   0 points

Careless Driving      $400   6 points


"Plan ahead, take extra time, slow down, and put your cell phone away”, said Constable Brad Stitt of the Belleville Police Service Traffic Management Unit.

Road safety is a priority of the Belleville Police Service, and motorists can expect to see an increased presence of officers in school zones.
