Accident

Belleville, Ontario – On December 26th, 2015, at 7:05 a.m. police attended at the intersection of North Front Street and Bell Blvd. as a car had struck a traffic light standard. The driver was transported by EMS with minor injuries. Her car was towed from the scene. Public Works had to close one lane on Bell Blvd. for several hours in order to erect a temporary set of traffic lights.  The investigation is continuing.

Fraudulent Kijiji Ad

Belleville, Ontario – On December 26th, 2015, at 4:46 p.m. a person reported a fraudulent Kijiji ad which listed an apartment for rent. The person was encouraged to complete the rental agreement on-line and forward the fees after viewing pictures of the apartment. The individual went to the actual address in the City’s east end and confirmed that there was no apartment for rent. Potential renters are reminded not to forward any money in advance until the rental property has been verified in person.

Dine and Dash

Belleville, Ontario – On December 26th, 2015, at 5:20 p.m. police attended at a licenced restaurant on North Front St. in relation to a customer who had failed to pay for his bar bill. The suspect had fled the scene prior to police arrival.

At 7:15 p.m. police attended at a different licenced restaurant on North Front St. in relation to a rowdy male who was attempting to start fights. A 28-year old Toronto man was arrested for breach of the peace. At this point it was determined that he was the same person from the previous fraud. Neither restaurant wished to pursue charges. Alcohol was a contributing factor in this incident.

Family Dispute

Belleville, Ontario – On December 26th, 2015, at 6:52 p.m. police attended at a residence on Bridge St. West in relation to a family dispute. One person had been struck in the face resulting in minor injuries. The suspect had fled the scene prior to police arrival. Officers located the suspect on Holloway St. where he was arrested without incident. The 42-year old Toronto man was relieved of his liquor bottle upon arrest that he was drinking out of. There were no charges in relation to the family matter, but the male was charged with consuming open liquor.

RIDE Team

Belleville, Ontario – On December 26th, 2015, the Belleville Police Service checked 365 cars during the overnight period.

At 8:29 p.m. a 23 year old Belleville woman was charged on Sidney Street for driving while under suspension. She will appear in Traffic Court in late January 2016.

At 1:58 a.m. on December 27th, 2015 the RIDE Team checked a motorist on North Front St.. The 21 year old Marmora man was issued a 3-day licence suspension after providing a breath sample. He was also charged with a novice driver violation by having a blood alcohol level above zero.

Break and Enter

Belleville, Ontario – On December 27th, 2015, at 2:57 a.m. police responded to an intrusion alarm call at the Via Rail Train Station on Station Street. Officers discovered a broken window and a male suspect was arrested at the scene. Further investigation revealed that 13 parked cars in the Via Rail parking lot had broken windows. Property had been removed from all of the vehicles. The property was recovered nearby. A 28-year old Ajax man was charged with break and enter with intent as well as13 counts of mischief. He was held for a bail hearing on December 28th, 2015.
