Police seeking witnesses after serious assault

Belleville, Ontario - On Friday 29 March 2013 at 3:23am Belleville Police Service and EMS responded to the area of the North Front Centre, a business plaza located at North Front and Tracey streets in the City of Belleville. Numerous people were in the vicinity at the time and are believed to have witnessed interactions between two groups of individuals on the north side of the parking lot, near storefronts of the plaza. As a result of one of the exchanges, a 34-year-old Quinte West man was assaulted and taken by EMS to Belleville General Hospital. He was later transported to Kingston General Hospital with serious injuries. During the same incident, a 20-year-old Quinte West man sustained non-life threatening injuries.

On Saturday afternoon 30 March 2013 Belleville Police Detectives identified a suspect and subsequently arrested a Belleville man. Jared BAUER age 18 years is charged with one count of assault and one count of aggravated assault. He was released on a Promise to Appear and Officer-in-Charge Undertaking with conditions. He appears in court on the 2nd May.

The Belleville Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch is continuing to investigate with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Section.
