Kids and Cops Celebrate Fishing

Belleville, ON:  It's that time of year again! Local children will be grabbing their fishing gear for the annual Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 11

Kids 13 and under can join Belleville Police at Victoria Park from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm for some fishing fun and great prizes. The young anglers, who must be accompanied by an adult, are asked to bring their own fishing gear, though there will be a limited supply of equipment to borrow. There will also be a free barbeque lunch. There is no cost to participate. The first 400 kids to enter will get a free t-shirt. Trophies will be awarded for the longest and shortest fish, and there will be a casting competition.

The event is sponsored by Fishing Forever, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding worthwhile fishing, conservation and education projects. It is also supported by the Police Association of Ontario, Canadian Tire, and Belleville Community Policing.

Bob Izumi, well-known fishing personality and chair of Fishing Forever, is an avid supporter of recreational fishing: “Fishing is one of the best ways for parents and other adults to establish productive and healthy relationships with children and promote conservation.”
