Elder Abuse

 

Belleville Ontario  - A 32-year-old city woman was arrested and charged Thursday October 30th 2014, following an investigation into a local case of elder abuse.

Members of the Belleville Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch began investigating after a complaint was made in early October 2014 by a 68-year-old Belleville woman regarding suspicious online financial transactions involving her bank account.

The investigation revealed the complainant’s 32-year-old daughter had used the senior’s online bank account to steal more than $8,000 over a period of about 10 months.

 

The woman was charged with the following offences:

  • Theft Over $5,000

  • Fraud Over $5,000

  • Identity Fraud

She was released from custody on a PTA with an OIC undertaking, and has a first appearance on Dec. 18, 2014.

Her name is not being released publicly by police to protect the identity of the victim involved.
