Theft
Belleville, Ont. - In June 4, 2009, at approximately 7:00 pm police were called to a Bridge Street West business to investigate a report of a male shoplifter who had taken off after assaulting staff from the store who had attempted to restrain him. He was caught nearby and when questioned by police and provided them with a false name. His true identity was revealed a short time later at the Belleville Police headquarters. A 21 year old Cambridge man faces charges of Theft Under $5000, Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000, Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest, Personation, Breach of Recognizance, and two counts of Breach of Probation. He was held for a Show Cause Hearing on June 5, 2009.
Break and Enter
Belleville, Ont. - On June 4, 2009, at approximately 10:30 pm police were called to a residence in the Geddes Street / College Street East area to investigate a report of found property. An alert citizen called when he found a laundry basket full of electronic equipment concealed under some shrubbery on his property. While waiting for police, he watched a suspicious male attend the area with another basket of property and confronted him. The suspicious male took off on a bicycle as officers arrived and was stopped a short distance away and arrested. Investigation revealed that the property was from a College Street East residence that had been broken into. The male party who was arrested had also just been released from jail four days prior after serving a custodial sentence for Breaking and Entering. A 30 year old Belleville man faces charges of Break and Enter, Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000, Prowl by Night, and Breach of Probation. He was held for a Show Cause Hearing on June 5, 2009.
