Operation Triton

Operation Triton had officers from Belleville Police Service, Stirling-Rawdon Police Service, surrounding OPP Detachments and the OPP SAVE (Snowmobile All-terrain Vessel Enforcement Unit) on the waterways during the walleye fishing derby over the past weekend.

The focus from the police perspective was education and enforcement. The police were provided with Safe Boating Guides from the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit and whistles from MADD and both of these items were passed along to participants and boaters throughout the weekend.

Belleville Police Service Constable Rob Travers (event facilitator) reports? "the organizers and many participants of the weekend derby thanked the police for their presence on land and in the water. The feedback was all positive?.

Weekend statistics are as follows for the Quinte Region:

3 Liquor License Act violations 3

3 Vessel Violations and approximately 56 warnings

19 Highway Traffic Act violations and numerous warnings in relation to lights and safety chains on trailers

More than 1000 RIDE checks were conducted, 3 roadside tests were administered and no impaired driving charges being laid.

6 vessels were removed form the waterways over the weekend
