Theft & Fraud

Belleville, Ontario ? Between March 26th and April 6th the Belleville Police Service received 14 complaints of theft and frauds. All were in relation to victims who were shopping at various locations in the City of Belleville and sometime during that time their wallets were stolen from their purse. The ruse was always the same as the victims were distracted by a female who requested assistance.

The suspect was described as female, darker complexion, possibly eastern European in appearance, medium to long dark brown hair, approximately 5'5?, between 30 and 40 years old and in some cases carried a coat draped over her arm.

In some incidents shortly after the thefts either the victim's credit card or debit card was comprised.

Further investigation revealed similar occurrences in other police jurisdictions within the Province and as a result on May 2, 2011 an arrest was made in Laval, Quebec of a 40 year old female, with no fixed address. The female was returned to Durham Regional Police Service where she was charged with several counts of fraud and theft, including those that occurred in the City of Belleville.
