Fraud Warning

Belleville, Ontario – Recently Belleville Police Service have become involved in multiple complaints by local citizens (primarily seniors) that have suffered a financial loss due to dishonesty and deception.

The dishonest person involved will seek out past acquaintances and ask for financial assistance to pay for treatments that are required to treat an ongoing medical condition.

Belleville Police Service would like to remind the community to:

  • Protect yourself- fraudsters are playing upon your emotions and attempting to convince you to act quickly as the scam is usually presented as a "life and death” situation.
  • Trust your instincts – if you feel uncomfortable about any financial request take time to think and discuss the request with someone you trust.
  • Report any situations where you believe that you have suffered a loss because of another's dishonesty or deception.

If anyone has any information in relation to incidents involving fraud they are asked to report the incident to Belleville Police Service at 613 966-0882.
