Selective Traffic Enforcement Initiative (STEP) _Update for February

Belleville, Ontario: Belleville Police Service's ongoing commitment to road safety in our community continues with the theme of distracted driving being identified for the month of February.

Belleville Police Service officers focused on distracted driving for the month of February issuing 150 offence notices for the usage of cell phones. Motorists were observed both talking and texting while using their cell phones when operating their vehicles.

The offence notice fine, for using a cell phone while operating their vehicle, is set at $125 plus the victim surcharge of $30 for a total fine payable of $155.
