Police Presence

The Belleville Police Service Honour Guard, Chief of Police, and members of the police service attended the funeral of Constable Erik Czapnik yesterday. A total of 16 officers from the service travelled to Ottawa to offer their condolences and as a show of support for the fallen officer, his family, his community and the members of the Ottawa Police Service.

Break & Enter(s)

Belleville, Ontario ? On January 7, 2010, police received a report of a Break & Enter to three storage units on a business property located on University Avenue. Sometime within the preceding 48 hours suspects cut through the locks on a fence and gained access to the property. Locks were then cut on three storage unit and all were entered. Nothing was taken from the units and police are currently investigating this incident.

A home owner on Sidney Street reported a Break & Enter to her apartment. The entry occurred sometime within the preceding five days when the home owner was away. Cash was reported taken as a result of the entry.

Damage to Vehicles & Theft (s)

Belleville, Ontario ? On January 7, 2010, at 12:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a theft from a motor vehicle. The vehicle had been parked on a shopping centre parking lot on Millennium Park Way and thieves smashed the driver's window to gain access. A lap top was taken from the vehicle.

Belleville, Ontario ? On January 7, 2010, at 2:18 p.m., a male was observed smashing a rear window of a vehicle parked at a shopping centre parking lot on Millennium Park Way. Witnesses saw the male remove a purse from the vehicle and then flee from the area in a red dodge vehicle, possibly an Avenger. The vehicle was reported as being a newer model. The suspect had what was described as ?bleached' blond hair and was wearing a beige colored jacket. This incident is currently under investigation.

Belleville, Ontario ? On January 7, 2010, at 3:07 p.m., police responded to a report of damage to a vehicle. The vehicle had been parked at a shopping centre lot on Sidney Street and suspects a window to gain access. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.

Theft of Trailer

Belleville, Ontario ? On January 7, 2010, at 13:30 p.m., a business on Cloverleaf Drive reported a theft of trailer. The trailer was an Advantage, 12' x 8' with 3' drop side rails. The trailer is valued at $2500.00 and the plate number is F3387F.
