Attempted Arson
Belleville, Ont. ? On June 7, 2009, at 1:15 a.m., an officer on patrol observed a male setting fire to a sign outside a North Front Street bar. The fire was quickly extinguished and a 30 year old Belleville male was arrested for Intoxicated in a Public Place contrary to the Liquor Licence Act. The attempt Arson investigation is continuing.
Driving Suspension & Warrants
Belleville, Ont. - On June 7, 2009, at 6:30 a.m., Police attended in the area of Pine St. and MacDonald Ave. in relation to a Domestic Disturbance. A vehicle was stopped leaving the scene. The driver was placed on the approved screening device and registered a ?warn?. As a result of the new legislation, he was issued a three day driving suspension. The driver?s woes continued as a further check revealed that he was wanted by the Kingston Police Service. The initial disturbance turned out to be only a heated discussion. This 24 year old Belleville man was turned over to Officers from the Kingston Police Service on the strength of their outstanding arrest warrants.
Shoplifting & Assault
Belleville, Ont. - On June 7, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., Police attended at Walmart regarding two male shoplifters. The males had been apprehended by store security for stealing automotive parts. One male assaulted the security person during the arrest. This male also kicked a hole in the office wall. Police recovered a small amount of cocaine on the second male. The investigation shifted to a vehicle in the parking lot. It was learned that the first male had driven the vehicle despite the fact that he had a ?lifetime driving prohibition? from the criminal courts. This vehicle was automatically seized for 45 days under the Vehicle Impoundment Program. A 35 year old Belleville man is charged with Theft, Assault, Mischief, Drive while prohibited, and two counts of Breach of Probation. A 29 year old Belleville man is charged with Theft, Possession of Cocaine, and Breach of a an Undertaking. Both males were held for Bail on Monday June 8th.
Bail Violation
Belleville, Ont. - On June 7, 2009, at 12:30 p.m., Police responded to a disturbance in the City?s west end. A 15 year old girl was arrested and charged with Breach of an Undertaking and Breach of probation. She was held for Bail on Mon. June 8th.
Assault with a Weapon
Belleville, Ont. - On June 7, 2009, at 4:50 p.m., the Belleville Police Service responded to a male brandishing a knife at a Front Street licensed establishment. The male was identified as a 24 year old Belleville man and was known to the victim. The male is alleged to have become in a fight with the victim over money owing. The accused punched the victim and then stole some of the victim?s clothing. The accused then threatened to stab the victim with a knife. The victim was able to evade the accused by fleeing from the area.
The accused then approached a relative of the first victim in the area and pulled the knife and threatened this second victim.
The accused was arrested a short time later on the Riverfront Trail. When the accused was searched police located crack cocaine in his possession.
As a result of this incident the accused was charged with Assault with Weapon, Assault, Utter Threats, Weapons Dangerous, Mischief,and Possession of Cocaine. The accused was held for a show cause hearing.
Noise By-Law
Belleville, Ont - On June 7, 2009, at 6:30 p.m., the Belleville Police Service attended a Front Street apartment regarding a noise complaint. As a result, two males were charged under the Municipal By-law. A short time later, Bellville Police re-attended for regarding another noise complaint. One of the previously charged males was arrested, transported to the Belleville Police Service where he was charged with Mischief and release on a Promise to Appear with a court date in July.
