Canine Introduction

Belleville Police Service would like to acknowledge and thank the generous donation and sponsorship by International Truckload Services who are represented here today by the owner Max Haggarty and director Pam Haggarty.
This partnership will enhance the safety in our community for all citizens because of this significant contribution to our Canine Unit. There is no doubt that Cst McNevin along with his new partner Rony will be an integral part in locating lost and missing citizens, apprehending offenders and educational initiatives.
Today, Belleville Police Service proudly introduces their newest member, Rony. Rony is a 14 month old black and tan, German Shepherd that was bred in Slovakia. Rony was selected by experienced Canine trainers from the Ottawa Police Service because of his lineage.
Canine units provide support to police operations in locating/searching for missing persons, tracking and apprehending offenders, assisting in tactical operations and educational initiatives.
Constable Jeff McNevin (a 7 year veteran with the Belleville Police Service) and his partner Rony will commence a 16 week extensive training course with the Ottawa Police Service beginning in April of 2011.
In the meantime, Constable Joly and his current partner Diablo will continue to provide an additional level of protection to the public and our members as the Belleville Police Service's Canine Unit.
Constable Joly has been our current canine officer since 2002. Cst Joly's first partner (Jaeger) served with Belleville Police from 2002 to 2007 when Jaeger suddenly passed away. Constable Joly then began his partnership with our current canine Diablo. Diablo (now 7 years) was donated to Belleville Police Service from Good Sheppard Kennels located in Norwood, Ontario. Diablo was, as well, bred specifically to fulfill duties as a police canine unit.
Diablo and Constable Joly will remain active until Cst McNevin and Rony have completed the necessary training. At that time Cst Joly and Diablo will pass the Belleville Police Canine responsibilities onto Constable McNevin and Rony.
